The southpaw all-rounder scored 49 from 29 deliveries, falling short of his maiden fifty, vs SRH on Sunday. More than the dismissal, what would hurt Washi more is, the way he got out.
Washington Sundar Caught Out for 49
He looked in total command, and looked to hit Mohammed Shami over point. But then Aniket Verma covered good 20m from the boundary, and grabbed a controversial catch, diving forward, It was one of those decisions, where it wasn’t clear if the ball hit the surface and then went into the hands, or hit the fingers first.
Replays Inconclusive, Third Umpire Makes Tough Call
Eventually, the batsman was ruled out by third umpire Nitin Menon, who felt that the catch was clean. But then GT skipper Shubman Gill and coach Ashish Nehra weren’t really happy with the way things panned out for Washington Sundar. Firstly because of the decision; and also since there was no need of a rash shot as GT were cruising towards the total at 106/2 in 13 overs, chasing only 153.
Earlier, Washi and Shubman combined well at a time when the side was reduced to 16/2, having lost Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler early. But the highlight of the innings was, when Washington slammed SRH pacer Simarjeet Singh for 20 runs in the over. In the end, he finished with five fours and two sixes.
