Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar advised experts and fans to not expect too much from young Vaibhav Suryavanshi. After his whirlwind hundred in the previous game, the 14-year-old perished for a two ball duck in the match against MI on Thursday. Gavaskar warned that the youngster still had a long way to go in terms of getting better.

Gavaskar’s advise for Suryavanshi

Speaking on JioHotstar, Gavaskar opined that Suryavanshi was some they shouldn’t praise to the skies. He pointed out that with the help of RR head coach Rahul Dravid, he would learn how to temper his innings and get better but it wouldn’t be wise for expectations to be made based on the games he’s played so far.

“I think he’s going to develop his game even more. Sitting with Rahul Dravid, he will learn how to temper his innings – he is only going to get better and better. I do believe that he is someone we shouldn’t praise to the skies,” Gavaskar said.

Gavaskar further pointed out that expecting Vaibhav to hit a first ball for a six could backfire against the batter. He said that experienced bowlers could launch a counterattack easily and that could lead Suryavanshi to worry and overlook things.

“Experienced bowlers will think, ‘Ah, he wants to hit the first ball for six?’ They will bowl it short, and then he might get out. Then, he could start to worry and overthink things,” Gavaskar added.

Batter fails after ton

In a bid to give a blistering start to his side, Suryavanshi went for an aerial shot off Deepak Chahar, but couldn’t time it well. he was caught out by Will Jacks who was stationed at mid on. It must be admitted, that all eyes were on the teenager, who had shocked the world with his effort — slamming second fastest 100 in the IPL.
