The India Cricket Team head coach Gautam Gambhir has clarified that he wants his ODI team to play aggressive cricket. Ravi Ashwin believes that seniors like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli can surely play an aggressive and entertaining brand of cricket. Ashwin clarified that Kohli needs to be the glue that sticks to the team while Rohit can continue his aggressive form as he did in the 2023 ODI World Cup.

After the conclusion of the IND vs ENG T20I series, the Men in Blue will take on the Three Lions for a 3-match ODI series. Following this, the attention will shift to the ICC Champions Trophy. As India plans to play a blood form of cricket, Ashwin is confident that the team will be able to live up to the expectations.

Ashwin confident of India’s Aggressive brand of Cricket

Ashwin claimed that Virat Kohli needs to act as the glue that holds the team together. He claims that Kohli needs to be the bridge that connects the aggressive top order and the lower order. Meanwhile, he emphasized that Rohit Sharma can continue his fearless cricket like he did a year and a half ago.

“It is important to realise Virat would be playing the role Hardik and Rinku played in T20Is. Who will be the bridge between aggressive batting on top and finishing the batting in the latter end? Virat. Virat has to play to his strengths, and if he regains form, then there is nothing like it for the Indian cricket team. He doesn’t have to change his game at all. Honestly, what is the hurry in ODIs? It is important to do what is right by the 50-over format,” Ravi Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

Back in the ODI World Cup 2023, Virat was the highest run-getter while Rohit Sharma was the second highest. Ashwin believes that Rohit doesn’t need to change the template and he can set the tone from the very beginning by leading from the front.

“Considering how Rohit played in the 2023 World Cup and the 2024 T20 World Cup, I don’t think he would have an issue. The way Rohit has adapted to the changing times and led from the front, I don’t think he will take a step back from the template,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel ‘Ash Ki Baat.’
