In what is a big relief for Delhi Capitals, vice-captain Faf du Plessis and Tristan Stubbs have linked up with the side ahead of IPL 2025 restart. The duo had flown back home along with other overseas stars after the IPL was suspended for one week last Friday. While it remains unclear if Stubbs will be available beyond the league stage, du Plessis is expected to stay till the very end.
Faf, Stubbs return to DC camp
In a press release, DC informed that both du Plessis and Stubbs had rejoined the camp ahead of the tie against GT on May 18. The team, however, confirmed that Mitchell Starc and Donovan Ferreira have made themselves unavailable. DC said that they fully respect the players’ decisions and extended their support to them.
“JSW and GMR co-owned franchise Delhi Capitals on Saturday confirmed that Vice-captain Faf du Plessis and teammate Tristan Stubbs have rejoined the team ahead of the resumption of IPL 2025,” a DC press release stated.
While the team has roped in Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman, he won’t be around for all matches, and as per reports is expected to join only on May 18. DC are are fifth on the points table, and are in the fight for the fourth spot qualification against MI.
Faf had played 6 matches where he had scored 128 runs with two fifties under his belt. Starc, on the other hand, had 14 wickets in 11 encounters. JFM was poor having scored only 55 in 6 clashes, but would have been vital at this point of time. Stubbs, lastly has 259 runs in 11 matches, at an average of 51. So, if DC qualify, and he has to go, the team will be the eventual loser.
Just to put things into perspective, DC need to win at least two out of their three remaining matches.
