The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has provided an Asia Cup update as tensions rise between India and Pakistan. The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are eliminated from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have named a temporary placement for the playoffs. Gautam Gambhir has been accused of stealing Shreyas Iyer’s thunder. Nitish Kumar Reddy finally bowled in IPL 2025. And lastly, we know why BCCI won’t name Jasprit Bumrah, India’s next Test captain.

BCCI’s Asia Cup decision
The BCCI has denied conveying to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) that they are withdrawing from the Men’s Asia Cup 2025. Devajit Saikia denied reports stating that Team India won’t feature in the upcoming ACC events and claimed that there have been no talks about the multi-nation tournaments amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan.

LSG out of IPL 2025
LSG are eliminated from the IPL 2025 playoffs race. Now, only two teams, the Mumbai Indians and the Delhi Capitals, have a chance to contest for the last final four spot. As has been the case for LSG this year, Rishabh Pant failed to show up, and their bowlers looked toothless against quality batters.

Gambhir, the credit stealer
Sunil Gavaskar has taken a veiled dig at Gautam Gambhir for hogging the plaudits for Kolkata Knight Riders’ title-winning run in IPL 2024. Gavaskar claims that Shreyas Iyer deserved all the praise as KKR captain, but ‘someone else’ got it. This comes after Shreyas took Punjab Kings to the playoffs after 11 years.

Lungi out, Blessing in for RCB
RCB has announced a replacement for Lungi Ngidi. The South African pacer will leave before RCB’s final group stage match against LSG on May 27 due to national commitments. He will be replaced by Zimbabwe’s Blessing Muzarabani, who will fly from England after playing a one-off Test match in Nottingham.

Why Bumrah won’t be India’s Test captain
According to former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar, the BCCI won’t make Jasprit Bumrah the next Test captain because of the ‘Hardik Pandya rule’. By this, Bangar means that since Bumrah isn’t guaranteed to play every match due to injury concerns, he can’t be named captain. Just like Hardik wasn’t in T20Is for India.

Nitish Reddy bonus before India vs England Tests
A lucky break for Team India. Nitish Reddy has started to bowl once again after a 5-month hiatus. The all-rounder hadn’t delivered a single ball since early January due to a side strain injury. Although he’d been batting since late March, it is only now that he’s resumed bowling. This bodes well with 1 month left before the India vs England Test series starts.
