IPL 2025 is the important T20 league coming soon, and not many days are left. After all the big changes this time, every team is set with their revamped squads. Many things have happened in the last few months, especially during the retention process and then the auction. Teams released several big superstars, such as DC releasing Rishabh Pant, while KL Rahul moved out from LSG. However, at the auction, each superstar joined new teams and settled with their new camps.
Although many players went unsold, does this mean they won’t be in IPL 2025? Mostly yes, since their chances are now closed. But there is still a way for them to enter through injury replacements. Recently, we saw that Australian player Josh Hazlewood, who got injured during the recent series against India, could be replaced. While nothing is confirmed yet, there are still chances for some players to make it via injury replacements. So, what does this policy say, and how does it work in the IPL? Let’s take a detailed look.
What is the injury replacement rule in the IPL?
Now, speaking about the injury replacement rule, the basic thing it covers is that if any player from the current squads gets injured, the franchise will be allowed to make a replacement.
So, when it comes to bringing in a player as an injury replacement, the replacement player’s base price must be lower than the price of the injured player. For example, Shardul Thakur, who went unsold, could only be considered as a replacement if the injured player was bought for more than INR 2 crore. Since Thakur’s price was INR 2 crore, he would only be eligible for replacement if the injured player was bought for more than that amount.
There are some changes in the policy that fans should know. Until 2024, the rule stated that franchises seeking a replacement for an injured player had to do so before the seventh match of the season. However, for IPL 2025, this has changed, and they can now get a replacement up to the 12th match of the season.
