Former Australian batter Brad Haddin believes that Australia has nothing to lose in the Champions Trophy semi-final, whereas India will be under immense pressure due to the advantage of playing all their matches at the same venue. Haddin is not alone in this opinion, as several former and current cricketers also feel that India playing in Dubai throughout the tournament gives them an edge.
Meanwhile, India captain Rohit Sharma has outrightly dismissed claims that his team has gained a significant advantage by playing all their matches in Dubai, despite the tournament being hosted in Pakistan.
“Every time, the pitch presents different challenges. The three matches we played here had different pitch behaviours. This is not our home; this is Dubai. We don’t play many matches here, and it’s new for us too,” Rohit said ahead of the semi-final clash against Australia.
However, according to Haddin, India is clearly benefiting from the situation, which is why they will feel the pressure heading into the high-stakes encounter.
Brad Haddin on IND vs AUS Champions Trophy semifinal
“They’ve got it set up, they’re playing great cricket but it’s a one-off shootout. Australia pride themselves on making sure they’re tournament play is spot-on and this is one of those games. And I don’t think there’s any pressure on the Australians at all. India had it all their own way and I can see – I don’t know whether it’s an upset – but I can see Australia beating India in these conditions. And I hope so, especially for where the tournament’s been.” Haddin said on the Willow Talk podcast (via Yahoo Sports).
India’s team selection in focus for Champions Trophy semifinal
A good headache, but surely a lot is at stake as well. In the last game, Varun Chakravarthy was nothing short of incredible, which is why Rohit Sharma has a lot to consider. Will he stick with the same team that played against New Zealand, or will there be some changes? So far, spinners have dominated, making it likely that Chakravarthy will retain his place in the playing XI. However, it will be highly interesting to see how the Men in Blue adjust their strategy against Australia in the Champions Trophy semi-final.
